📸 + 💭: earth2audge “You can't sneak up on these clams. Every time I moved in, the mantle pulled back and the color drained out. So I hovered and waited. Hundreds of pinhole eyes line the mantle edge, tuned to shadows and movement. A shape overhead reads as a predator. The color comes from cells called iridocytes, stacked platelets that send useful wavelengths down to the symbiotic zooxanthellae and throw the rest back out. That reflected light is what I photographed. Every one is patterned differently. Under a strobe it goes electric. Worth the wait.” #MarineMonday #GiantClam #SodwanaBay
