Yesterday marked the start of the heycarterbooks digital billboard campaign, and I’m still taking it all in. 💛 Thank you theoaacc, cdaconsulting, and beckerboards for the opportunity to display Hey Carter! exactly where it needs to be. The campaign unexpectedly launched on my birthday, and I truly couldn’t have asked for a better gift. Today, I saw the billboard in person for the first time, and I cried. Blackness. Black joy. Black youth. Black love. Black healing. Black fatherhood. On billboards. In Oakland, California. For our children and our community to see. Nine years ago, I started Hey Carter! because I wanted Black children, especially Black boys, to see themselves differently. To see themselves celebrated, loved, joyful, and full of possibility.
