Ever wondered what happens to a player's racket before they step up to the table? Here's everything you need to know about racket control testing at table tennis events.
Pre-match racket control
✅ Visual inspection: The racket is checked first for anything that looks unusual or suspicious.
✅ Blade check: Both sides of the blade are inspected.
✅ Racket covering: The rubber on each side is checked for condition and compliance.
✅ Thickness measurement: The racket thickness is measured. To pass, it must be within ~4.10 mm.
✅ VOC test: The racket is tested for volatile organic compounds (VOCs), such as residue from illegal boosters or glues. To pass, the reading must be within ~3.3 ppm.
Post-match racket control
Thickness measurement with the racket dismantled usually happens after the match, with both the player and the referee present.
Racket control keeps the game fair, so every player competes on equal terms.
