Kathleen Ryan finds beauty in things that are already beginning to fall apart. The American sculptor is known for transforming oversized fruit, bread and other familiar foods into elaborate sculptures that explore decay, abundance and excess. Mold, bruising and rot are painstakingly recreated using beads, crystals and semiprecious stones. That contradiction is what makes the work so compelling. The parts we would normally consider spoiled or worthless become the most intricate and precious. By making decay beautiful, Ryan shifts our attention to the parts we’re usually quick to discard. Decay isn’t the end of the object. It’s where the transformation begins. #KathleenRyan #ContemporaryArt #Sculpture #ContemporarySculpture #ArtWorld #ArtCollectors #AmericanArt #GuyHepner
