A Surprise mom says she had to fight off a coyote with her bare hands after it suddenly went after her 4-year-old daughter. The two were outside flying a kite when she heard her daughter scream. She turned around, saw the coyote coming at her and immediately grabbed her daughter while trying to fight the animal off. At one point, she even pulled off her flip-flop and used it to defend them. The coyote continued coming after them, and the mother was bitten in the face during the struggle, suffering cuts and puncture wounds. Arizona Game and Fish later responded to the area and removed several coyotes for rabies testing while investigating the attack. Officials said it was the Valley’s first recorded coyote attack on a person since December 2023. Coyotes are common across Arizona, but attacks on people are rare.
