Arizona State University hockey head coach Greg Powers has been placed on administrative leave after one of his players collapsed during an outdoor team workout on campus. Matthew Mayich, 21, collapsed during the workout at Sun Angel Stadium on Aug. 20 and is in a coma. He was drafted by the St. Louis Blues in 2023 before joining the ASU hockey team. ASU says assistant coach Mike Corbett will lead the team as the season opens this weekend. An interim head coach will be named at a later date. The leave comes after seven anonymous ASU hockey players sent a letter challenging the university’s internal report on the collapse. The players are demanding an external probe and calling for the coaching staff to be placed on administrative leave. #ASUHockey #SunDevils #Arizona #Tempe #MatthewMayich
