A Gilbert woman who has battled liver cancer for 15 years says a new non-invasive procedure has left her feeling “reborn.”
Linda Lindquist, 77, was diagnosed 15 years ago. She had just come back from a hiking trip to Machu Picchu in Peru, feeling strong and keeping pace with people younger than her, when a sharp pain in her stomach was the first sign something was wrong. She recalls that her liver tumor weighed four and a half pounds and was the size of a volleyball. It was removed in a 2011 surgery in Houston. In a video recorded after that surgery, she said it was hard to believe what she had thought was a hernia turned out to be a cancerous tumor.
She recently underwent histotripsy, a new non-invasive procedure. Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the only hospitals in Arizona offering it.
Lindquist says she has approached her fight with a positive outlook and describes herself as full of joy and gratitude. “I feel reborn,” she said.
