A Gilbert man will spend the rest of his life in prison after attacking his own mother and 91-year-old stepfather inside their home.
Police were called to the home in November 2025 after family members became concerned when the couple missed dinner plans and stopped answering calls.
Investigators say Gary Crawford had recently moved in with them. He later admitted to detectives that he “snapped” and “blacked out.” His stepfather, Oscar Casdorph, passed away after being attacked with a hammer.
Crawford’s mother survived after also being attacked and shot.
Crawford pleaded guilty to first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder. He was sentenced to natural life in prison plus 21 additional years.
Would you consider life + 21 years a fair sentence in a case like this?
