A driver crashed into a west Phoenix 7-Eleven in the middle of the night and was gone before crews got there.
It happened around 1:45 a.m. on Sept. 27 near 75th Avenue and Camelback Road. Police say the car hit a utility pole first, then went into the gas station, knocking out power to the store and nearby streetlights. SRP crews were sent to repair the lines and say it will take some time.
Firefighters found the car stuck in the closed building with no one inside. Early reports said the driver jumped into a nearby canal, so police and fire searched the area by land and air with a thermal imaging helicopter. The driver hasn’t been found, and Phoenix police have taken over the hit-and-run investigation.
