My newest exhibition builds on Ferdinand Hodler’s wonderful sketches and portrait studies of the collection from the National Gallery of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Instead of copying his unfinished faces, I translated his century-old lines into portraits on glass, giving fading paper contours a tangible, light-filled presence.
Glass forgives nothing - a strike cannot be undone. Where Hodler searched for a face across paper studies, my process happens entirely in my head before the hammer falls. His work is thinking made visible sheet by sheet; mine is thinking made permanent in a single, unrepeatable pass.
By layering staggered glass panes, I echoed Hodler’s concept of „Parallelism.“ Recreating his iconic Lumberjack held special weight for me, directly connecting his depiction of labor to my background as a trained carpenter.
The Persistence of Presence is about the endurance of an image across time - from paper to glass, and from one artist to the next.
