🔎 TODAY’S DAILY SIFT: THE FEED
Content is becoming infinite.
Attention is not.
Yesterday YouTube said it will increasingly favor original Shorts and reduce distribution for channels built around reuploaded or lightly modified content.
Voiceovers.
Minor edits.
Templates.
Not enough.
YouTube wants commentary, analysis and storytelling.
Now put that beside new Pew data.
Across 37 countries:
79% say social media makes people easier to manipulate with false information and rumors.
68% say it makes political divisions worse.
In the US, 64% say social media has been bad for democracy.
Yet businesses are becoming more dependent on the feed.
A TikTok commissioned study estimates the platform contributed $81 billion to US GDP in 2025 and supported 410,000 jobs.
That is the tension defining digital culture.
We distrust the feed.
We depend on the feed.
And AI is about to fill the feed with more content than humans could ever consume.
So scarcity moves.
Away from production...
