Google just released Gemini 4 Argon, and the benchmark numbers are serious. Google reports Argon finished first on 13 of 19 benchmarks against GPT 6 Astra and Claude Opus 5.5, including strong performances in real world coding, professional knowledge work, long context and multimodal understanding. And then there is the context shift: 1 million output tokens, up from 64K. That may be the bigger signal. The frontier AI race is moving beyond better answers. These systems are being built to stay on a problem longer, process vastly more information, navigate complex workflows and increasingly perform work rather than simply respond to prompts. Argon is initially restricted to trusted cyber defenders in Google’s Fairwind Program, so this is not yet a mass market Gemini release. But the direction is unmistakable.
