A teen curfew ordinance has recently been shot down by Raleigh City Council members after being proposed due to a large teen takeover event that happened between Brier Creek and Glenwood South on July 4.
The Raleigh Police Department arrived around 10:25 p.m. in response to reported fights occurring near the movie theater and other stores. Police attempted to clear the area by removing teens from stores.
A teen curfew ordinance was proposed to the Raleigh City Council following the incident. The ordinance would’ve put restrictions on teens in public spaces between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., with exceptions such as traveling for work or being with a parent/guardian.
Jane Harrison, a Raleigh City Council member who represents District D in Raleigh, said the teen curfew ordinance could be unfair to teens who are abiding by civil standards.
