Funk is felt, not just heard. And feel it we did when Bobby Sparks II (moogboogieman) breezed into our cargo lift with his band in tow—saxophonist Keith Anderson, bassist Justin McKinney and drummer Adarian Roberts. Crammed into a three by four metre space, the band fired on all metaphorical cylinders, a musical engine conjuring the impeccable grooves that Sparks is beloved for. This master of vintage keys masterfully fused funk, rock, soul, and jazz into a single sonic universe that drew in anyone in the vicinity into its orbit. Effortlessly cool, absolutely electric.
