⚽️ ENCOURAGE the goalkeeper in your team to talk and support their teammates!
They have the best view of the pitch. They can see the whole game unfold, spot danger early, and help organise the team from behind.
When a goalkeeper communicates, they’re helping teammates feel supported. A shout of encouragement, a reminder to stay switched on, or a quick bit of reassurance after a mistake can make a huge difference, especially for young players.
It also helps goalkeepers grow in confidence. Giving them permission to speak up shows that their voice matters and that leadership isn’t just for the loudest or most experienced player on the pitch.
As coaches, we can help by prompting it in sessions. Simple cues like “can you help your defenders?” or “what can you see from there?” go a long way.
