On July 8, 2021, Padres relief pitcher Daniel Camarena hit a grand slam off Max Scherzer. It was Camarena’s first career MLB hit, making the moment even crazier.
Camarena had been called up from Triple-A earlier that day and was playing in only his second MLB game. He crushed a 96.5 mph fastball 416 feet into the stands.
The grand slam cut the Padres’ deficit to 8–6, and they eventually came back to win 9–8. A pitcher getting his first MLB hit against Max Scherzer and making it a grand slam is something you’ll never forget.
