So what is Hoshana Rabbah really about? On Yom Kippur, we show Hashem the person we want to be. During Sukkot, we enter His home and show that our commitment can remain real even while we eat, drink, sleep, and engage with the physical world. Then comes Hoshana Rabbah. It is the moment when we ask Hashem to believe that what He saw was not temporary. The growth of Yom Kippur and the holiness of Sukkot represent who we truly are and who we intend to remain throughout the year. Hoshana Rabbah is our prayer that the inspiration will follow us when we leave the sukkah.
