Thousands of prisoners across England and Wales are set to be released early over several months under a new scheme designed to free up prison space. Offenders serving sentences of up to 19 months are now eligible for release after a third of their term. Offenders convicted of rape, grooming and child sex offences, and unlawful killing are not eligible for early release under this scheme.
