New drivers in Northern Ireland will now have to follow new rules, in a bid to reduce fatal road crashes involving young people.
The Graduated Driver Licensing is a UK first, and the change means that learners must have their provisional license for at least six months before booking a test, new drivers have to display blue “R” plates for two years after passing their test, and those under 24 years of age cannot have other young passengers in the car between 11pm and 6am.
Drivers who do not follow the restrictions could receive three penalty points or a fine of up to £1,000.
