The hockey world has lost a beloved person, friend, student and athlete. On Sunday, October 4th, Riley Vander Esch sadly passed away at the age of 21. We send our deepest condolences, love and strength to Riley’s family, friends and the Saint Mary’s & Sioux Falls communities. Vander Esch, a native of Sioux Falls, SD, was a tremendous athlete, student and most of all, person. She was entering her senior season with the Cardinals, where she was a goaltender with seven games under her belt. Riley was majoring in Sports Management & Accounting. Prior to attending SMU, Vander Esch was a 2022 state champion with the Sioux Falls Flyers. Please join us in keeping Riley, her family and her friends in your thoughts and prayers.
