Toyota just revived one of Top Gear’s most infamous Hilux torture tests, this time dropping a 760 kg caravan onto the all-new electric Hilux from roughly 30 feet in the air.

The biggest change is under the skin, because this ninth-generation Hilux is the first battery-electric version of Toyota’s legendary pickup, using dual motors and permanent all-wheel drive instead of the old-school diesel setup.

Despite the massive caravan landing directly across the cab, Toyota says the truck powered up immediately afterward and drove away under its own power.

The new Hilux also gets a substantially redesigned front end, slimmer headlights, a more modern Land Cruiser-inspired interior, electric power steering in Western Europe, and dual 12.3-inch displays on higher trims.

Its EV powertrain produces 193 hp combined, while a 59.2 kWh battery gives it roughly 150 miles of projected WLTP range.
