Did the ancient Persians really debate every big decision twice; once drunk, and once sober?
That’s the story the Greek historian Herodotus told nearly 2,500 years ago: inside the Achaemenid Empire, the gravest matters were debated over wine at a banquet, then put to the same men again the next morning, sober. If the decision survived both states, it stood and anything first decided sober had to be re-examined drunk.
