A second person has reportedly died from plague in Russia's Irkutsk region, according to local media.
Last week, a female laboratory worker died after reportedly being exposed to pneumonic plague at a research institute in Siberia. Hundreds of people who had contact with her were placed under observation after Darya Shipilova told medical staff she had accidentally broken a test tube containing live bacteria at the Irkutsk Anti-Plague Institute.
Russian authorities have said Shipilova died from 'unidentified pneumonia'.
There are fears she may have contracted the bacterium responsible for plague - the disease infamous for causing the Black Death, which killed millions across Europe during the Middle Ages.
