Beijing is currently battling an infestation of fall webworms, as mature caterpillars are beginning to descend from trees in search of sheltered spots to pupate and overwinter.⁣ ⁣ In order to deal with the problem, Beijing Wildlife Park recently held a fun “caterpillar-catching” challenge, attracting 136 visitors over two days. Together, they caught about 10.5 kg of fall webworms — roughly 70,600 caterpillars!⁣ ⁣ The activity was part of a public forest-protection campaign, inviting visitors to take part in ecological conservation in a fun and hands-on way.⁣ ⁣ Meanwhile, Beijing has released around 400 million parasitic wasps since Sept. 28 to help control the pest population.⁣ ⁣ #forestry #Beijing #wildlife #ecosystem
