I've always found it funny that I can have 47 things going through my head at once, then put on the right electronic track and suddenly I'm locked in.
Turns out there may be some science behind that.
A 2024 study published in Communications Biology found that certain types of rhythmic music could support sustained attention, with some of the strongest effects showing up in people who reported more attentional difficulties. The researchers also found changes in brain activity across networks involved in attention and cognitive control.
It makes sense when you think about electronic music.
There's a steady beat, repetition, patterns, and just enough stimulation to keep your brain engaged.
Maybe that's why I can spend hours listening to house music but somehow can't make it through a five minute conversation without my brain opening 12 other tabs. š
