USB or XLR? Here's what actually matters.
A USB mic combines the mic, preamp, and digital conversion in one device and connects directly to your computer. An XLR mic sends an analog signal to a separate audio interface for gain and conversion. USB can produce excellent recordings and is a solid starting point. XLR can cost more upfront, but it's modular, so you can upgrade the mic or interface separately as your needs grow. And Source-Connect doesn't require XLR either. A compatible USB mic can work too.
