📚✨ Ever wondered what a book can tell you beyond its words?
Free Library of Philadelphia’s ( on the Parkway) newest exhibit, “Well-Read, Well-Loved, Well-Used: Evidence of Readership in the Modified Book,” takes you inside the margins — literally. Think centuries-old annotations, a 5,000-year-old cuneiform tablet, a book literally eaten by a worm 🐛, and even a lock of hair tucked between the pages (yes, really).
One of our favorite finds? A 1793 pamphlet about Philly’s yellow fever outbreak, where the original owner scribbled his own survival story in the margins — spoiler: it involves a bottle of brandy and fleeing the city. Peak Philly.
The exhibit features books from all over the world spanning 5,000+ years of history, and it’s completely FREE to visit — Monday–Saturday, 9 AM–5 PM, from Oct. 2nd through April 17th.
Want the full story behind the pages? Join a curator-led tour daily at 11 AM.
