Malaya Majam-Finch is beginning her freshman season at Oklahoma with one of the most recognizable softball names behind her. The Sooners pitcher is the niece of Jennie Finch, the former Arizona All-American and Olympic gold medalist who now serves as an AUSL advisor and continues to advocate for and grow the game of softball. When Oklahoma officially announced its 2026 signing class last November, Patty Gasso highlighted both Malaya’s softball bloodline and the work she had put into building her own career. “It’s obvious by the last name that Malaya has an unbelievable bloodline of elite softball in her family, and she has worked extremely hard to continue that bloodline of her own,” Gasso said. She also praised Majam-Finch’s presence on the mound and said her personality fit seamlessly into the Oklahoma program. Now, nearly three decades after Jennie Finch began her own freshman season at Arizona, Malaya is beginning hers at Oklahoma.
