Apple just walked into India and the biggest banks said “not yet.” Here’s why that matters to your wallet.
Apple Pay launched on 30 Sep with Axis Bank only. HDFC, ICICI and SBI Card are still negotiating, because Apple wants about 0.20% of every tap and the bank’s whole margin on that tap is 0.40 to 0.50%. Nearly half.
Apple skipped UPI (₹97,000 crore a day, zero fee) and came in through credit cards. Cards are where the fee is. And the fee exists because a card lets you spend money you haven’t earned yet.
Two rules, tonight:
1. Before every tap: is this money in my account right now?
2. Autopay ON, FULL amount. Never minimum due. Minimum due is 36 to 42% a year, compounding.
I put the 10 rules I follow into a free Credit Card Playbook.
