The only USDA committee built to speak for Black farmers has been frozen for over a year, and its own members want to know why. The Advisory Committee on Minority Farmers was told in February 2025 it was "on pause." Members were in the middle of drafting recommendations for the Agriculture Secretary when everything stopped. Now they're turning to Congress for answers, with Rep. Shontel Brown saying the administration "cannot simply ignore a legal mandate because it doesn't fit its agenda." It all comes as Black farmers face cuts to USDA programs, lost grant funding, and policies that hit an already vulnerable community the hardest.
