The Prince George’s County Council has awarded millions of dollars in grants this year to an organization with close ties to Council Chair Krystal Oriadha but has not publicly said why the organization was chosen and for what the funds will be used.
Using documents obtained through an open records request, the News4 I-Team found the council awarded nearly $8.6 million in two installments to Community on the Frontline, an organization run by Janna Parker, whom Oriadha has repeatedly described on social media as her “best friend.”
In a statement to the I-Team, Oriadha said she abides by the county’s ethics rules and is committed to transparency, adding: “Personal and professional relationships naturally develop when elected officials work closely with organizations serving their communities. Those relationships should not determine funding decisions or automatically exclude qualified organizations from consideration.”
