At just 15, Ann Makosinski developed the Hollow Flashlight, which produces electricity using the temperature difference between a person's warm hand and the surrounding air. The device used thermoelectric Peltier elements, which generate electrical energy when heat flows across them. That electricity powered an LED without conventional batteries or moving parts. Her project became a finalist and winner in the 2013 Google Science Fair.
