My next book Venator Mortis, doesn’t whisper. It shouts to the universe: “Was this always the fate of women, to be fought over, bought, handled, arranged, renamed, emptied, and called beautiful for how quietly we endured it? Would the unjustified abuse, objectification, and ownership of my kind always occur behind locked doors while men toasted civilization in the next room?” That rage didn’t come only from reading the Epstein files. It came from my own assaults, my own abuse and from watching people I love be hurt, silenced, and expected to keep going as though nothing had happened. When the man who assaulted me was finally courtmartialed, I learned that he had hurt other women during deployments, too. That knowledge has never left me. Venator Mortis was born from that rage, from fury of knowing how often people are harmed behind closed doors while the world protects the monsters responsible. This book is not quiet. Neither am I.
