This could be a brutal box office result 😬
Tom Cruise’s new film Digger took just $20 million globally during its opening weekend, according to figures reported by the Associated Press.
The Alejandro G Iñárritu directed satire reportedly cost at least $125 million to make, with some reports putting its production budget closer to $150 million, alongside an estimated $100 million marketing spend.
It earned $8 million in North America and a further $12 million across 74 international markets, giving Cruise one of the weakest opening weekends of his career.
The film has also struggled with critics and received a C+ CinemaScore from audiences. Industry estimates cited in reports suggest Digger could ultimately lose around $150 million.
Cruise’s previous major box office disappointment was The Mummy in 2017, which still went on to gross $409.2 million worldwide against a reported $195 million budget.
