Karl Bushby has spent nearly half his life completing one of the maddest journeys ever attempted 🌍
The former British paratrooper left Punta Arenas, Chile, in 1998 with around $500, a backpack and two strict rules: no transport could move him forward, and he could not return home until he arrived under his own power.
Since then, Karl has crossed the dangerous Darién Gap, walked over the frozen Bering Strait, been detained in Russia and survived years of wars, visa problems, closed borders and pandemic delays.
When his land route became impossible in 2024, he swam 184 miles across the Caspian Sea, spending 132 hours in the water across 31 days.
Now aged 57, only the English Channel and one final walk to his mother’s home in Hull stand between him and the finish line.
Imagine leaving for a walk in 1998 and getting home in 2026. What a bloke 👏
