A widely debated bill that could drastically impact the economic landscape of college athletics is making its way through the federal government.
The Protect College Sports Act, passed by the Senate on Sept. 28 in a 77-22 vote but facing opposition in the House, aims to promote fair competition and protect name, image and likeness rights for college student athletes. It would institute a cap on revenue sharing and establish new requirements for NIL agreements and safeguards for varsity and Olympic sports teams while protecting schools and conferences from lawsuits through a limited antitrust exemption.
