After an electric win last night over Virginia Tech in Blacksburg to push Pitt football to a perfect 5-0, the Panthers were dealt a devastating blow that cast a cloud not only over the win, but over the rest of the season.
Sophomore quarterback Mason Heintschel, who took a nasty hit to the knee in Friday night’s game, has now been diagnosed with a torn ACL in the win, according to ESPN Insider Pete Thamel. Heintschel left the game early in the third quarter after sustaining a hit while on the run near the sideline. He immediately grabbed at his knee and had to be helped off the field by trainers. He could not put any weight on his right leg while limping off the field.
Pitt was holding out for better news, but an MRI confirmed today the severity of Heintschel’s injury. He is out for the rest of the season.
