The Mizzou Alumni Association opened its 43rd annual Homecoming blood drive at the MizzouRec Sept. 21.
Following a record-breaking year with 5,070 units of blood donated, the association and partner American Red Cross collected 5,150 units of blood. With this achievement, Mizzou’s blood drive has broken its personal record every year since its inaugural year.
“Our internal Red Cross goal is 1,200 units a day, but obviously if we’re looking to get to that 5,070, we're going to need to beat that each day,” Ben Halstead-Smyth, the district manager for Northern Missouri’s Red Cross, said.
