One of the most important homes ever built in America. The Edith Farnsworth House, designed by legendary architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, was completed in 1951 along the Fox River in Plano, Illinois. Built as a weekend retreat for Dr. Edith Farnsworth, the home became an icon of modern architecture — a nearly transparent glass-and-steel structure seemingly floating above the landscape. More than 70 years later, it still feels remarkably modern. Proof that truly great design doesn’t need to follow trends. 📍 Edith Farnsworth House — Plano, Illinois #FarnsworthHouse #EdithFarnsworthHouse #MiesVanDerRohe #ModernArchitecture #Architecture MidCenturyModern IllinoisArchitecture ChicagoArchitecture HistoricHomes
