WWE has been granted a 90-day extension to decide whether to oppose Spike Dudley's application to trademark his ring name.
Matt Hyson, who wrestled in WWE as Spike Dudley from 2001 to 2005, filed to register the name in May for action figures. The Trademark Trial and Appeal Board granted WWE's extension on September 25. WWE has until December 23 to file an opposition and has not filed one.
Hyson applied to register "Spike Dudley" for wrestling services in November 2005, months after his release. The USPTO refused it over WWE's "Dudley Boyz" registration, which has been active since 2003, and he abandoned that application in January 2007.
Hyson, 56, is a former WWE Cruiserweight, European and eight-time Hardcore Champion, and won the tag titles with Tazz. He works in financial services and last appeared at TNA Bound for Glory in October 2025 with Bully Ray and D-Von before Team 3D's match with The Hardys.
