Behind every midway light, thrilling ride and fair tradition are the people who make it all happen. Our Midway Mavericks series spotlights the bold personalities and behind-the-scenes stars of the State Fair of Texas, and few names are as iconic as Fletcher’s.
In 1942, brothers Neil and Carl Fletcher dipped a hot dog in cornmeal batter at the statefairoftx, and a Fair Park tradition was born. Today, generations of Fletchers are still working the stands, and the process hasn’t changed since day one.
We asked Timothy Fletcher, who’s been part of the family business for 41 years (starting as an infant in the back office 👶), about fan photo traditions, what it takes to run seven stands with 100+ employees in just 24 days, and his advice for first-timers:
