The city of Carlisle was without running, usable water for a week after a series of water main breaks drained the city's water supply. Carlisle, a town of around 4,000 residents on the southeastern edge of the Des Moines metro, began running dry after a water main break was discovered on Wednesday, Sept. 30. Residents were asked to not use any water until answers were found and repairs made. The city, on Wednesday, Oct. 7 — exactly one week after residents could no longer run their taps — announced it would lift its do-not-use order and transition into a boil order, letting residents again turn their faucets on.
