A coalition of unions, AI companies and investment companies is making a seven-figure ad buy in Iowa to promote "responsible policies and guardrails" surrounding data center development as the projects have drawn growing public pushback across the state.
The American Infrastructure Alliance, backed by Blackstone, SoftBank Group, the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers and OpenAI, will run a 30-second ad across Iowa later this year advocating for state and local cooperation when adopting rules and regulations for data center projects.
This push to shift public opinion on data centers comes as more tech companies attempt to break ground on projects in Iowa. Local communities across the state, including in northwestern Iowa's Salix and eastern Iowa's Clinton, have been divided over the issue.
