October 4th is National Golf Lovers Day! This day is observed on this day because on October 4, 1895, the first-ever U.S. Open Championship was held in Newport, Rhode Island. For today, Jared letterpress printed a photo engraving that is new to our print shop exhibit at the Sacramento History Museum. This engraving, made 60-80 years ago, depicts a whimsical caricature of a male golfer wearing a plaid sweater winding up a golf club ready to tee off. This was recently acquired off of eBay. This was printed with a mix of red and opaque white rubber base ink (to make pink) using our Washington hand press, which was made in 1852. #SacHistoryMuseum #golf #golfing #museumtok #printing
