After a year of unsuccessful contract bargaining, the Graduate Employees Organization at the University of Illinois Chicago, GEO Local 6297, went on strike this week. Since Monday, over 1,500 graduate assistants and teaching assistants have stopped lecturing, grading and working with students. Many have been picketing throughout UIC’s campus with signs, buckets, noisemakers, megaphones and more all week.
