Seeing more missing-child flyers from Arizona police lately? A change in state law helps explain why. 📲
Arizona law now requires agencies to share information about missing, kidnapped and runaway children on their official social media pages within 24 hours of receiving a report.
Posts must include the child’s description, last known location, clothing, a current photo if available and a police contact number.
Phoenix Police says it receives around 200 missing-child reports each month. Previously, the department generally posted flyers when a case had a higher level of urgency, rather than for every reported missing child.
More posts don’t necessarily mean more kids are going missing. More cases are now required to be shared publicly.
The law also limits publicly labeling children as “runaways.” Agencies can withhold information if releasing it could compromise a child’s safety or the investigation.
Do you think this should’ve been required a long time ago? 👇
