Yesterday I was a guest on a podcast. Near the end, the host asked: “What character in the scriptures do you most align with?” I paused, then said, “I don’t pretend to be similar to Jesus Christ. I’m so far from who He is… but I strive most to align with Him.” That answer still feels true. But after the host shared that he relates most to those clawing through life’s struggles, just trying to become something, I realized I understood the question more deeply. Because while I strive to be like Jesus, who I often feel like is… Like Peter, who fell short, then stood tall. Like Alma the Younger, who rebelled, then rose. Like Nephi, obedient even when unsure of what was ahead. Like Enos, who wrestled before God in mighty prayer. Like Joseph Smith, overwhelmed, rejected, yet faithful. Like Captain Moroni, bold and unwavering in defending truth. Like the young lad with loaves and fishes, who didn’t have much, but was willing to give. Like the beggar, completely dependent on mercy...
