On National Coming Out Day, our friend and activist @honeymahogany reminds us that as we celebrate, we can also recognize the historical ties to the fight for racial justice. Black Panther Party founder Huey Newton recognized that Black people and LGBTQ+ people faced the same oppressive systems, and so he called for the Black civil rights movement and the LGBTQ+ liberation movement to come together. It was 1970, but Newton’s call for a united front remains relevant. Today, those coming for LGBTQ+ rights are the same ones erasing Black history. National Coming Out Day isn’t just about visibility and living authentically. It’s also about coming together to accomplish full liberation for both Black and LGBTQ+ communities. #NationalComingOutDay #BlackPantherParty #racialjustice #lgbtqrights
