In an age of AI, drones and supersonic missiles, one tool being used in the fight over land in the West Bank is surprisingly low-tech: sheep. Some Israeli settlers send sheep to graze in Palestinian communities, then claim the area because their sheep are there. Settlers have even pushed sheep into people’s yards. Settlers using these sheep farms have taken over huge swaths of land: 20% of the West Bank. The West Bank is home to over 3 million Palestinians, who hope to make it the heart of their future state. It’s also home to over 500,000 Jews, who have built communities called settlements in the hope of making this part of Israel. In recent months, some militant settlers have been ramping up violent attacks to drive out the Palestinians who live there, often with impunity. The Israeli government is showing an unwillingness to crack down on the violence. The settlers say they have a biblical right to this land. #westbank
