Today we cut the grass to 3.5 inches (over an inch taller than what it's cut to during the baseball season) ๐ We're getting the playing surface ready for what could be a harsh winter outside. Days are shorter, so longer blades of grass can capture more sunlight & maximize time for photosynthesis (storing carbohydrates & nutrients). ๐ The taller grass also acts as a 'blanket' over the soul keeping heat & moisture closer to the ground. Ultimately, the stronger the grass crown and the deeper the roots, the faster we can bring it back to a dark green by Opening Day in May (schedule release in Winter). It takes year-round maintenance to have one of the better playing surfaces in summer collegiate baseball ๐ #kalamazoogrowlers #baseball #kalamazoomichigan #grass
